Thank you for reading, Sean. You are right, there is a lot of intersectionality in my story, and that shouldn’t be ignored. But for me it does become very much about race. In this particular story, I don’t see just one bank, and one interaction with a loan officer. I think of people in all times and all places in America who go into banks, job interviews, court hearings, and think about the outcome of Black vs. white. In all of those situations where the person--same intelligence and grit as me--shouldn’t get the result they are hoping for, how many miraculously get their request? And of those, how many are white?
